5 Days Uganda Primates Adventure

a monkey hopping

Overview

This 5-day Uganda primate adventure takes place in Uganda's south-western and western regions in East Africa. Uganda is one of the countries with the highest concentration of primates in the world. It is home to the world's biggest concentration of endangered mountain gorillas, as well as chimpanzees, who live in undisturbed tropical forests.

In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you'll track endangered mountain gorillas, while at Kibale Forest National Park, you'll track sought-after chimpanzees. Other primates can be found in Kibale Forest National Park. Bigodi swamp hike and cultural adventure are two great activities to try. Entebbe International Airport / Kampala is where the journey begins and ends.

Detailed trip

Day 1: Kampala to Fort-portal city - Kibale Forest National park

Our professional driver guide will meet and brief you at either the airport or Kampala city, then drive you to Fort Portal for a 7-8 hours’ journey through busy towns, rich plantations, and breathtaking scenery. You'll make a few stops along the way to see intriguing sights and it'll be time for lunch. The road leading to Fort Portal, Uganda's tourism city, is defined by magnificent scenery and lush vegetation. For dinner and sleep, you'll travel to your accommodation in Fort Portal or the park.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

Your day will begin with your first lunch, followed by a trip to the park headquarters for a briefing. After that, the ranger guide will accompany you to the Jungle for a family reunion. Close inspection reveals why scientists believe man evolved from apes, based on their resemblance in appearance, family behavior and level of intelligence. Other primates such as white and black Colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and more can be found in the same park, as well as mammals like forest elephants and buffalos, numerous birds and unusual vegetation.

After the 2- to 5 hours’ chimp trekking experience, you'll return to the lodge for lunch before heading to Bigodi Swamp, one of the country's important Ramsar areas, for a swamp walk. You will engage with the locals, observe primates like the Baboons, and return to the lodge satisfied. At sunset, have dinner and stay the night.

Day 3: Kibale Forest National park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, then check out and transfer to the Misty Jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the southwestern section. The breathtaking scenery, including plantations and more will accompany you to the park, where you will be greeted by the dense impenetrable forest. After safe arrival, dinner and a nice nap will be served at the resort.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Batwa pygmies visit

After breakfast, meet your driver for a transfer to the park headquarters for registration and briefing, first activity of the day. The search begins once the ranger guides have explained about the gorillas, the trekking restrictions, and assigned individuals to Gorilla groups to track. Following the sounds, instincts, and broken tree branches, they first went to where the Apes were last seen. During the 2-6-hour trekking exercise, you have a chance to see monkeys, birds, rare flora, and mammals, plus an additional hour for photography and questions and answers.

You will have a lunch break after the gorilla trekking activity, followed by relaxation and a visit to the Batwa communities. The Batwa are well-known historical forest inhabitants who were forced to relocate due to the necessity to protect the forest and resident flora and fauna. They are among the country's shortest people and their native dances, stories and village walks fascinate visitors. The day concludes with dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Departure

After having a sunrise breakfast at the lodge, you will checkout for a transfer to Kampala/ Entebbe national Park. It is a full day drive, with an enroute stopover for lunch at the equator in Kayabwe town and lots of stunning attractions to lookout for throughout the Journey.

End of safari.
