4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

Overview

This is one of the amazing tours designed for only those visitors interested in tracking the endangered mountain gorillas twice by visiting two different gorilla families in the famous Volcanoes national park. This rewards visitors with immense knowledge about their behaviors.

You have different options you can opt to take after each gorilla trekking session; either to visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, visiting Lake Kivu in Gisenyi region or Ibyiwachu cultural village.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and travel to Volcanoes National Park

Be picked from any agreed point like the hotel or airport in the morning and immediately start a journey that will take about 3-4 hours to Volcanoes national park. Volcanoes national park is known to have the best gorilla families that you will be trekking within the next 2 days.

There is a lot to explore while in this park and among others include bird species, the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, Lake Kivu among others. Arrive and take a relaxed lodging, booked for your dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking session. Visit the Ibyiwachu cultural village or the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo

Head in the forest and encounter the big apes after a short briefing at the park offices where the dos and don'ts will be speculated. These among others include not feeding wild animals, not making noise, always keeping a distance from the apes among others. Have an average of an hour while in the presence of the gorillas and then you will need to take memorable photos, watch them feed, breastfeed their young ones and playing.

There is a lot you will spot while in the forest and among others include different bird species. Head to the lodge and have the option of ever visiting the Iby'iwacu cultural village for a great Kinyarwanda cultural experience or visiting the twin lakes.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking session and transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi

Head to the park for a second gorilla trekking adventure and this time you will visit another gorilla family in the same park. The trek takes about 4 to 5 hours while in the jungle but all this start with a briefing that will make the experience to be carried out smoothly.

After the trek, you will check out of the hotel and proceed to Lake Kivu but in case time allows, you will take a nature walk along the shores of this giant lake.

Day 4: Sunrise boat cruise and transfer back to Kigali city

Have a leisurely breakfast and then set off for a morning boat cruise on the scenic Lake Kivu. Enjoy a stunning view and later head to Kigali city with a drive. Be dropped at the airport or hotel to mark the end of this 4 days Double gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda.
