3 Days Gorilla Trekking Tour in Rwanda

Overview

Rwanda offers one of the best gorilla trekking experiences in East Africa and this can be done in one of its magical national parks called Volcanoes National park. The park is located in the North western part of the country covering 160 square kilometers of rainforest and encompassing five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains, that is; Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo.

The three day gorilla trekking safari starts with pickup from Kigali city, transferring to Volcanoes national park, spending a night, gorilla trekking experience, return to Kigali city via Iby’iwacu community and an optional city tour and then departure on the third day.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park

Upon arrival on Kigali International airport, you will meet our professional driver / guide who will lead you on a 2 hour drive journey to Ruhengeri – Volcanoes national park. After arriving at the park headquarters, you will check in to the lodge of choice for lunch and relaxation. Then spend the remaining hours enjoying spectacular views of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes, rolling hills in the neighborhood, and so much more.

Have dinner and spend a night in preparation of the next day’s activities.

Day 2: Trekking gorillas in the Volcanoes national park

After a delicious morning breakfast at around 6:00am, park your essentials including lunch and transfer to the park headquarters. Upon arrival, join others for a short time briefing about the dos and don’ts of the trekking adventure. You will be assigned ranger guides and be allocated a specific gorilla group to track on the day.

The park comprises of 11 habituated Gorilla families available for trekking every day. You will be guided into the deeper parts of this forest park, as you track these animals. Upon meeting them, you will be given a maximum of one hour to spend in their presence as you take pictures and watch them play, mate and dine.

Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Ibyi’wacu community tour, Kigali city tour and departure

After a delicious morning breakfast, checkout of the lodge and drive to Ibyi’wacu community and get to experience their amazing hospitality, traditional dances, local food and other life styles. Continue to Kigali city from where you will spend some time around the city as you tour cultural centers, historical areas such as the Genocide memorial (where thousands lost their lives during the 1994 Rwanda genocide) and craft shops from where you can grab something to always remind you of the safari.

Have lunch at any hotel of your choice and head to Kigali international airport for departure.
