Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls - Uganda's most romantic destination

Explore Sipi Falls on a Uganda safari: Every year, a large number of local and international tourists flock to Sipi Falls. The falls, which are regarded as one of Uganda's most romantic locations, are a collection of three notable waterfalls, the longest of which drops 100 meters. The second waterfall includes upper cascades before it plunges 75 meters below. The third waterfall is tall and columnar measuring 85 meters.

The falls are situated at the edge of Mount Elgon National Park close to the Kenyan border 55 km north of Mbale District in Eastern Uganda's Kapchorwa District, northeast of Mbale and Sironko.

When the light shines on the three falls, it produces a brisk mist flow and even tiny rainbows! creating a romantic backdrop. There are numerous neighboring less noticeable falls, though. They can be a lovely setting for spending some quality time with a loved one. The water that comes from Mountain Elgon's slopes is harvested by the falls.

Additionally, Sipi Falls is frequently where hikers who want to climb Mount Elgon begin their journey. The chilly air, the icy water, which some claim to feel soothing when submerged in, and the surrounding Bugisu Arabica coffee fields only grown at an altitude of 1600 meters contribute to the falls' popularity. The Sipi River, which took its name from a local plant called the "sep" that grew along the river's banks, is where the stunning waterfalls get their name. With leaves that are translucent green with a bolt of crimson red, this plant resembles a species of wild banana and is used medicinally to treat fever and measles.

According to local folk stories, British tourists asked a woman who was harvesting wild herbs in a neighboring plantation what the name of the falls was. She responded, "Sep," thinking they were asking what the plant was called.
