12 Days Uganda North-Western Circuit Safari

Overview

Have a good time while taking part in this safari where you will be able to spot the big five animals (rhino, buffalos, elephants, lion and leopard), take part in different activities like chimpanzee tracking, rhino trekking, game drives, boat cruises, community tours, city tours among others.

The tour therefore will take place in Murchison falls, Budongo forest, Kidepo valley National Park, Jinja and Soroti. Have a great time as you take this memorable safari

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Uganda and spend a night in Kampala

Have a great time as you land at Entebbe International Airport where you will be able to meet the driver guide well dressed in our company uniform. The driver-guide will be able to take you through a briefing about this 12 Days Uganda North-Western Circuit safari. He will then take you to the hotel in Kampala.

Day 2: Kampala City tour

Take either a drive or a walk around Kampala City where you will be able to visit places like the local markets such as the Nakasero market, Owino / St. Balikudembe market, religious centers like Gadhafi mosque, Rubaga cathedral, Bahai temple among others, Uganda museum, cultural centers like the Kasubi tombs, Kabaka's lake and Palace among others. The lunch will be served here you will be able to taste the real Ugandan local food.

Day 3: Transfer to Murchison falls national park and stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary

Leave Kampala early in the morning and then head to Murchison falls national park which is known to host 4 of the big five animals. This park is the biggest conservation area and it’s divided into two parts by River Nile making the southern part a woodland forest that stretches to Budongo forest and the northern part covered with savannah vegetation.

The road trip will reward you with daily roadside markets. Have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where you will have a chance to trek one of the big five animals – the rhino. Trekking can take about 2 to 3 hours and after head for food at lunchtime. You will thereafter proceed to Murchison falls national park where you will spend your night.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo forest and visit top of the falls

Head to Budongo at the office and attend the briefing. You will be told about the dos and don'ts of trekking experience like keeping quiet while in the forest, maintaining at least 8 meters (25 feet) from the chimpanzees at all times, Do not mimic Chimpanzees’ vocalization, Do not eat near the Chimpanzees, Do not chase the Chimpanzees, Do not use flash photography among others.

You will then head into the forest to start tracking and in a short distance, you will meet a group of chimpanzees and you will spend an hour with them which will create a memorable experience. After a great adventure, you will head to visit the top of falls where you will witness the rainbow that is formed when water squeezes itself in a narrow gorge and also makes a thunderous sound.

Day 5: Game drive and boat cruise in Murchison falls National Park.

Take a morning game drive that will include a break at the hippo pool where you will enjoy bush breakfast. There is a lot to discover and spot in the savannah plains of Murchison falls national park such as elephants, leopards, lions, giraffes, hippos, zebras, buffalos among others.

The game drive will last for 2 hours and you will take an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile, this will be another great adventure. Here, you will spot water animals like crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffalos and different antelopes and view the raging Murchison falls from the bottom. This boat cruise will last for close to 2 hours and this mark be the end of day five.

Day 6: Transfer to Kidepo valley National Park. Optional stopover at Aruu falls

Leave Murchison falls national park and head to Kidepo Valley National Park which represents the true African wilderness. The beautiful landscape dotted with different wildlife such as bird species, mammals and plants like Kigelia Africana, among others has attracted a good number of tourists to come and visit the park.

On your way to Kidepo National Park, you may visit the Aruu Falls to take memorable photos (this is optional depending on the time). There is an option of taking a natural shower at the bottom of the falls. Arrive late in the evening and check in at your accommodation facility.

Day 7: Full day game drive

Have an adventure in the valley plains of Kidepo as you take a full day game drive with lunch picnic. The plains will reward you with different animal sightings like lions, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, warthogs among others.

Enjoy leopards, different antelopes like the Jackson’s hartebeests, among others. The game drives will be two as one takes place in the morning while the other in the afternoon / evening.

Day 8: Game drive and visit Karamojong community

Have a game drive in the morning after your breakfast and later on head to visit the Karamojong villages who will be able to welcome you. Visit their homestays, attend the traditional dances and music, and take part in tasting their traditional delicacies which is animal blood and Posho, sorghum among others. This will be a great day in your lifetime.

Day 9: Transfer to Soroti city

Head to Soroti early in the morning and it will be a long day drive which can take about 10 hours on a dusty road. You will arrive and check in at the hotel in Soroti Town.

Day 10: Hike Soroti rock and transfer to Jinja Town

Take a short hike off the Soroti rock which will give you the best scenery of the surrounding and Soroti Town. In case you are lucky, you will find goats grazing on top of the rock because it has some vegetation cover. The summit rewords with great view and it’s a perfect photographic point.

Head to Jinja while passing in Kumi district and if time allows, you will visit Nyero rock painting, a historical place where you can learn more about the history of Ugandan cultures.

Day 11: Boat cruise to the source of R. Nile and transfer to Entebbe

Take breakfast and have a great time while adventuring in Jinja. There are several activities you can take part in including a boat cruise that will take you to the sources of R. Nile. This will reward you with numerous counts of crocodiles, hippos and different bird species.

You will take the best experience with options like zip-lining, tubing, water sliding, quad biking, and bungee jumping experiences. Later on have lunch, and then drive to Kampala and check in the accommodation where you will spend a night.

Day 12: Flight back home

Fly back home after leisure breakfast with options of visiting Uganda Wildlife education centre and Uganda Reptile Village. Be dropped at the airport and this will mark the end of your safari in Uganda.
